How to measure to the nearest quarter inch (color coded)
I created this info graphic in a small group today. I figured it would be helpful in explaining the scale on a ruler. Also, see the video from Monday, April 27.

May 1, 2020 Part 1 of 2

This is a review of the week! I will attach a file of my book report which now includes two paragraphs (following this video). Thanks for tuning in! Due to me by Monday, May 4th: book report summaries (minimum of two paragraphs) and math performance assessment tasks.

Amazing Enrichment Opportunity with Local Organization!

Dear Families of Room 1,

I wanted to push out this opportunity to be a part of a local competition. They are giving away gift cards and other prizes. Did I mention that one of our very own Mira Cat families won first place last week?! Congratulations to Risa Suzuki!

This organization (AltSea) does a lot to educate teachers, students, and their families about careers with the ocean. I personally went and visited their underwater vessel and took part in a professional development at the beginning of the year.

They are doing another competition with the theme "Oceans can Save the World" or alternate theme "If you had an Aquafarm, what would you grow?"

Again, please use this to replace, or supplement, any alternative science, art, etc. for the week.

All the best!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Moore

Bonus Video: Customary Capacity

Use gallon man (Wednesday/Thursday) to follow along! Remember, students get an extra day extension on the math work!

Book Report Summary

Here is an example of a paragraph summary that I wrote using the collection of notes and graphic organizers. Please note, I will strengthen this writing, or make changes (next week), in order to show children how to look at their writing and REVISE.

Part 1 of 2 April 29, 2020

This is how you can start drafting your book report. Gather all your graphic organizers and notes, brainstorm what are the most important topics for YOU to write about. Take main ideas and begin writing! I also like to talk it out, or plan across my fingers before beginning to write. I am going to post a file with a sample paragraph.

Part 2 of 2 April 27, 2020

Measuring customary length overview. It would be very helpful if you had a measuring tape or ruler so you can follow along! I have given you a day extension for the math work. Please take two days to really soak in customary length- quarter inches, half inches, inches, feet, yards, and miles. You have TODAY and TOMORROW to work on customary length (everything has been pushed back one day). I would encourage you to measure objects around the house. Start with smaller objects like erasers, pencils, cups to measure to the nearest quarter inch. Next, using feet and yards measure larger objects like tables, beds, chairs, etc. Finally, using an app, fitness tracker, or timer to see how long it would take you to walk a mile around your neighborhood.

Part 1 of 2 April 27,2020

Please have your book, a pencil, and a graphic organizer OR piece of scratch paper ready to follow along. We will be taking notes on our books to write a book report this week!
