February

This may be a short month but it will be a busy one!

This month is Black History month, where the third grade sets aside intentional time for mindful education about black history in America, and even other countries (ex: Nelson Mandela in South Africa). If you are looking for an extracurricular this month, then I would recommend watching this YouTube video to a Disney special called "Ruby Bridges (1998)." Although it is old, it is a pretty fascinating movie, and includes some really mature concepts (it depicts both the actions and words of racism in America- death threats, acts of aggression, etc.). Therefore, this movie should ABSOLUTELY be watched with a responsible adult, and discussed afterwards. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl7eDbVG-2w&t=4131s. Again, to reiterate, this is a completely optional activity.

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Wednesday, February 14th. Your child may bring valentines for the each of the students in our class.  This is optional.  If your child chooses to participate, please have them bring 24 unmarked valentines for each of their classmates.

We will celebrate President's Day with a holiday on February 19th.  I hope everyone will enjoy their day off!

Looking ahead to March, our FUN RUN will be Friday, March 9th.
