Spotlight

Mira Catalina has a strong academic program which develops the social, emotional, and academic skills of students in a positive, nurturing, and safe environment.  Students have opportunities to be challenged academically while building positive self-esteem. Mira Catalina Elementary School strives to create independent, well-rounded, life-long learners. Establishing a sense of Community where students, teachers, and parents feel connected to and supported by one another is vital. The Six Pillars of Character Education are ethical values that are implemented to help guide our choices: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. We encourage individual initiative: personal best, creativity, dreams, and imagination. Respecting individual differences: cultures, interests, and abilities, is imperative to our success. Finally, instilling the joy and value of learning that lasts a lifetime is the aim of Mira Catalina’s mission.

Read 100,000 Minute Challenge

To kick off our upcoming book fair, Mira Catalina is challenging students to read at least 100,000 minutes by June 1st. Book fair gift certificates will be awarded to the top readers after spring break. If every student reads only 15 minutes each day, we would easily exceed 100,000 minutes before the end of the school year. Information will be sent home this week and will also be presented to the students during their library time. Let’s see how many minutes Mira Cat can read! For questions about the Read 100,000 Challenge or to signup to volunteer at the book fair, please contact Cathy Michalak at ccozier@cox.net.
