How do Adaptations Help Animals Survive?
Adaptations help animals survive. For example, the caribou have thick fur and lots of fat to keep them warm in the cold snow. Caribou eat lichen and lichen is very hard to digest so caribou have 4 stomach chambers that is made to digest lichen. Caribou also travel to a big forest in the winter, so it is easier to find food. Another example is that phasmids look like sticks meaning that it has camouflage. Phasmids are nocturnal. That means that they hunt for food at night. “Phasmids are hard to spot in the daylight, let alone in the night!” Alligators also have their own adaptations too. Alligators make their own water holes so when the ground dries out then they can drink out of their water holes. The water hole also serves as bait for other animals, for when other animals drink from the alligator's water hole the alligator could pounce with no warning. Luckily alligators only eat a few times a month! That is how adaptations help animals survive.

When the Civil War started eleven states left the Union. Abraham Lincoln was the president when the Civil War started. Slavery divided the country in two halves, the North and the South. The South wanted slaves and the North didn’t think that they should have slaves. An attack on Fort Sumter started the Civil War. The bloodiest battle in the Civil War was in Gettysburg. In the end the North won the war. There are still more facts that I don’t have so make sure that you do some more research!

Adaptations help animals survive.
An adaptation of an animal is behavioral or physical characteristics of an animal to help it survive in its environment. For example, a caribou has four different chambers in its stomach designed to eat lichen. They have a hard time surviving the cold winter because their food sources decline. They travel to a large forest area. So, the food is easier to find. A phasmid adaptation is camouflage, so predators don’t see them. And they are nocturnal, so they are active at night. A skunk adaptation is when a predator is trying attack them, they lift their tail and spray a foul-smelling spray. The spray is pronounced from glands under their tails. An alligator's adaptation is when its dry they stay in the cool freshwater lakes. Also, when the ground dries up, they make holes in the ground to drink out of. Some animals visit their holes and become prey to the alligator. And that’s the four-animal adaptations.

Animal adaptations
Adaptations help animals by camouflage, trapping animals, and their fur. Animals have so many adaptations they are like superpowers. Alligators for example they trick animals into thinking the alligator is a log so, the alligator must stay still. What about Caribous? Caribous have thick fur that keeps them warm in the Tundra. But there's not that much food there so, Caribous move to the forest for food to eat. Phasmids have adaptations to. The have camouflage to not get killed by predators. Sence the war started; 11 states left the union. Aberham wanted to end slavery and was president. Abe had a 2-minute-long speech and the photographer only took 1 photo of Abraham. The Southerners wanted slavery, but the Northerners did not so slavery divided the country. They attacked on fort Sumter. It was the bloodiest battle in Gettysburg. 630,000 Americans' died in the battle. Finally, the north won but Abe got shot by an assassin. Today we respect Abe for his hard work of ending slavery.

Some animals are caribous they have thick fur and fat that keeps them warm. The caribous have a muzzle with hair so when the animal takes a breath it will breathe warm air not cold air. Animal Adaptations
How do adaptations help an animal survive?
Adaptations help an animal survive. Caribou, phasmid, and alligator are a couple animals that have adaptations to help them survive. Having two layers of fur and a thick layer of fat keeps Caribou warm in the winter. They have small hairs on their muzzle (nose and mouth) to push aside the snow from the food, so they do not digest any snow. When they inhale the small hairs warm the air before the caribou breathe it in. If you think that is cool just wait until you hear this! A caribou’s stomach has four chambers or compartments that are designed to digest their food. Lichen is one of the few foods they can find in the winter. Even with all these behavioral traits, caribou still have a hard time in the cold finding food. This is why they travel to large forests, away from the tundra.
Guess what?! An insect can look like a twig! You’re probably thinking that an insect that looks like a twig is impossible. Well, there is! They call this bug the phasmid, but its nickname is “the walking stick”. But the cool thing is that the phasmid can change colors like a chameleon so they can blend in with their surroundings. Seeing as the walking stick is already hard to spot in the daytime, you wouldn’t believe how hard it would be to see it at night. You’d better believe it. These insects are nocturnal which means that they are active at night. This helps them camouflage even more than they already do!
In Florida’s freshwater marshes lives the alligator. The dry season is hard for the plants and animals to survive. But luckily the alligator has found a way. When the alligators drink from the watering holes they aren’t the only species that benefits from the watering holes. Plants grow here, too. The other animals that visit the alligator watering holes become prey for the alligators. The log-shaped body of the alligator makes it hard to know that the predator is in the water waiting to pounce on its prey. This doesn’t happen much because a few times a month is when the alligator eat

People called Abe backwoods, although he didn’t like being called Abe and he wasn’t backwoods. Slavery divided the country into the Union (North) and the Confederacy (South). That’s the war where the most Americans have died. Lincoln dedicated a portion of the Gettysburg battlefield “as a final resting place for those who gave their lives that that nation might live”. The speaker before Lincoln gave a two-hour long speech, whereas Lincoln gave a speech that was only two minutes long! The Union won the Civil war and ended slavery in most countries. Sadly, Abraham Lincoln died from an assassination shot in the back of the head by a Confederate John Wilkes Booth. I think Abraham Lincoln is a hero.

Animals use adaptations to help them survive in the world. There are four animals with a few adaptations I am going to talk about. The four animals are caribous, phasmids, alligators and skunks.
Skunks “they can blast a predator with a horrible-smelling spray produced by the glands under their tails”. That is all I am telling you about skunks today.
Caribou’s have more adaptations (five adaptations). The first out of five is “The tip of a caribou’s nose and mouth is called a muzzle. It is covered in short hair”. Thank you for those little hairs on the caribous because they make the air cold before they inhale the air. They also get to stay warm for they have two layers of fur with a thick layer of fat. They have four chambers in their stomachs so they can digest lichen. Last thing about caribous is when it gets, too cold they don’t have food to get the can travel to a forest.
Phasmids (walking sticks) is nocturnal, so it is easier to live. Phasmids have camouflage the can change color and blend in with a tree branch.
The last animal an alligator which is log-shaped, so it is camouflaged. Alligator's feet and snouts clean away dirt from the holes in the limestone. They also only need to eat a few times a month so they can stay camouflaged. That is all four animals I am talking about today with them adaptations.

Animals have special ways to adapt to their environment. For example, a skunk uses its disgusting smell juice to keep predators away. And birds travel thousands of miles to get to a warmer or colder area. Animals can also have a lot of fur or fat to keep them warm. For example, Seals, bears, and wolves all use fur or fat to keep them warm. Some animals can't see but because they can’t see they have a different way to adapt. Like moles a mole uses its great since of smell they use their smell to find their way around the world. Some predators have a way of catching prey called letting the prey come to them. Like alligators the like to stay in one spot for a long time so that it would look like a log floating in the water. But when its prey gets close enough it will strike. The Civil War was a war based on slavery. The war began in 1861 the war ended in 1865 there was 620,000 casualties during the war. The slave states were called the Union and the states without slaves were called the Confederates they fought for 4 paranoia filled years. The most deaths were during the pickets charge on July 3rd, 1863. The pickets charge was the Unions last attempt to win the war. It led a huge division of infantry at the Confederate defenses. The attempt failed which made it so the confederates would be able to win the war easily. In the end the Confederates won, and slavery was banned.

Adaptation helps animals survive because it gives them survival advantages like say an alligator has a body that disguises it to look like a log, and when the dry season comes, they use their feet and snouts to clean dirt from holes in limestone bedrock. Phasmid disguise like tree branches to hide from there enemy. They also can camouflage and are nocturnal.

Adaptations help animals survive. Without them, animals would not be able to survive in their environment! But first, what is an adaptation? Simply put, an adaptation is a special feature or trait that an animal has on its body or knows to do which helps them around hard situations. Take a caribou, for example- they live in the tundra, which is a snowy and very cold place. But, with its special adaptations, it can stay warm! It has thick fur, and under that, lots of fat. This adaptation works like a jacket. It also has a muzzle that has short hair- the hair warms the air before they breathe it in, and it also keeps their nose warm while digging in the snow for food. Caribou also have 4 stomach chambers, unlike humans who only have 1, which are able to digest the type of food that they eat. When Winter arrives, the caribou travel to the forests where food is more easily found during cold times. But you may be asking, “Not all animals live in the cold- do animals in the warm have adaptations too?”. As a matter of fact, they do- there is an insect called a Phasmid, or more commonly known as a “walking stick”. This name was given for its impressive camouflage- the bug looks almost identical to a stick! It is also nocturnal, which means you are about at night and not day. This helps the phasmid avoid predators. But there are many other animals, too- what about animals that live in the water? Let’s take an alligator for example- alligators’ backs look like logs. This means the alligators can lay still in the water, and animals may not know it is a predator. They also can use their snout “to clear the dirt from holes in the limestone bedrock.” When the ground dries, the alligators drink water from the holes. This also benefits the alligator by luring other animals to the water hole, which makes easy prey for the alligators to eat. Alligators also only need to eat a few times each month, which makes food needed less often. In conclusion, every living animal- including humans- need their adaptations to survive their environment.

“The Mushroom Man”
“The Mushroom Man” is about an old man who has the ache of loneliness, yet is able to find an unexpected friend- who is a mole! Although their present selves were similar, and their pasts may look the same, looking closely their lives are very different.
But an immediate connection they were able to make was that they were alone. Mole had lost his family in a flood, and the Mushroom Man had a cat named Beatrice which left him behind. Farther into the conversation, the lonely speakers found they both had the hobby of writing poetry. Between the two of them, the man and the mole shared that the dark was more appealing to them than the light. After the Mushroom Man had asked, the two had realized that they loved mushrooms!
These many similarities also had differences in them. It was obvious by now that one was a man and one was a mole. Clearly, the man lived in an apartment and the mole lived in a burrow. The man could see the mole, but he did not know that Mole could not do the same as well until he had told him that he was blind. In the beginning of the conversation, Mole did not trust the Mushroom Man as easily due to the events of his unfortunate family. The man also seemed that he had a sweeter and softer way of speaking than Mole.
With all these similarities and differences, it’s hard to tell if there is one thing that was exactly the same about the Mushroom Man and Mole. You may say “no” at first- but at the very end, they agreed 100% on one thing- “The very best gift of all was having a friend.”

He often polished his car and drove away to be with them rather than Sadie, who was not used to such little attention from her older brother. She starts to get the feeling that Richie does not care for her so much and her basketball games. When Sadie arrives to her game, she had collided into two other people’s wheelchairs. But she looks up at her mom, expecting to see disappointment on her face, only to see Richie running to her- a moment later reaching her and handing her a beautiful bouquet of purple and white flowers. He told her, “It’s great to have a lot of new friends, but I realized that you’re my best friend.” That is how Sadie knew Richie still cared for her like he did before.

With sympathy, the king gave Shahkro a fine black horse to quickly ride back to his town. But, for his last trick, he sold the black horse for a donkey but told the king the horse changed itself from a horse to a donkey whenever it pleased. It was then the king asked when he was to trick him when he found out that Shahkro had already tricked him 3 times- and that is how the man who’s trade was tricks fooled king.

Abraham Lincoln grew more sorrowful as the conflict between the North and South became even more difficult. Finally, there came the bloodiest war, at Gettysburg, a small town. The battle lasted 3 days- each getting worse. The 3rd was the most important of all. That is where the north won. Then, Abraham Lincoln gave his famous speech: the “Gettysburg Address”. It was about how so many people had given their lives- sacrificed themselves- to keep our country together. It was a terrible, bloody war. Thousands died- but all the brave men know that it was worth it because our nation is now one.

How do animal's adaptations help them survive?
Caribou
Caribou are one example of how animals have adapted, they have adapted to their surroundings in many ways here is one example Caribou have a four chambered stomach ;Text evidence: on page 136 the text says “the stomachs four chambers are designed to digest lichen” so they can digest more kinds of food one being Lichen. Another example about how Caribou have adapted is that they have started to grow short hairs on their muzzle (nose and mouth) which helps to heat up the hair before they breath it in and doing so helps to keep the Caribou warm.

Phasmids (aka walking stick, stick bug etc) have also adapted, here’s an example on how they have adapted to be able to camouflage depending on the color of their surroundings. Phasmids have another form of camouflage; they look almost identical to a leaf or stick making it harder for predators to spot them. Phasmids are nocturnal Aswell.
Alligator
Alligators adapted to their surroundings in many ways, alligators as well as the stick bug have a way of camouflaging alligators mainly live near rivers, swamps, and other large bodies of water, an alligator's way of camouflaging is just simply laying in the water motionless, by doing this they look like a log floating in the water which makes it very easy for them to catch their prey. Another example of how alligators have adapted is that they only must eat one to three times a month.

One way that skunks have adapted is that they will lift their tail and spray an odor that can travel up to 10 feet away when they feel threatened. The second way that they have adapted is by their pattern. There is usually black and white, this makes then less vulnerable to getting attacked or eaten by a predator because the bright colors will make the predator think that the skunk is poisonous.

An example is some animals are bright colored, most of the time, that means that they are poisonous. Birds and butterflies migrate south in the winter. Here are some animals that use their adaptations.

The Caribou's stomachs are unusual. Their stomachs are four chambered! They eat a tough food called lichen, but when that doesn’t work, they travel to a different place to have different food.
Have you ever heard the insect named “The Walking Stick”? Well, that is named after an insect called the Phasmid. Adaptations help an animal survive. Adaptations are the special ways that animals can protect themselves or help them to survive. Like some animals are bright colored, that means that they are poisonous. Birds and butterflies migrate south in the winter. Here are some animals that use their adaptations.
The Caribou lives where it is very cold. They need to stay warm, so they have two layers of fur and a thick layer of fat. The Caribou have muzzles that help keep the air that they breathe in warm. The Caribou's stomachs are usual. Their stomachs are four chambered! They eat a tough food called lichen, but when that doesn’t work, they travel to a different place to have different food.
Have you ever heard the insect named “The Walking Stick”? Well, that is named after an insect called the Phasmid. They get their name from looking like a stick when they are blending into the surroundings. This is called camouflage. Phasmids are also nocturnal, so when someone is looking for them in the dark, they can see the person and run away. But even if someone is looking for them, no one will find them.

“The Mushroom Man” is a story about the ache of loneliness and finding a friend. The Mushroom Man and Mole become great friends. Although they were similar, they had many differences. The two friends are similar in many ways. The pair of them like mushrooms. The mole in the story, showed the Mushroom Man truffles and he was shocked and amazed. Next, the two of them liked the dark. The Mushroom Man worked in the dark and his favorite time of day was when the moonlight shown down from the sky. The mole lived in the dark most of his life, underground in the tunnels. Between the two of them, they have been lonely for most of their lives. The Mushroom Man living with no one and the mole living without a family of moles.
The mole is different from the Mushroom Man. He is a Mole, or an animal. Also, the Mole is blind. He cannot see anything, but only can smell. The mole does not walk like other animals, instead he lives “beneath the earth”. Finally, the mole lives underground, not in a house.
The Mushroom Man is also different from the mole, too. He is a human and can walk with his two feet and not crawl. The Mushroom Man can see very clearly like most humans. Finally, he lives in an apartment. He does not live underground like the mole. The Mushroom Man and Mole are similar and different in many ways but are still amazing friends.

Richie cares about Sadie. First, Richie helped Sadie with basketball after the accident. In the book, it says “He even borrowed a wheelchair himself to help her learn to play the game all over again.” He took the time to do something to help his sister. Next, when he arrived at Sadie's game, he brought a bouquet of flowers and bowed. He didn’t miss Sadie’s big game! Finally, when he was talking to her, he said, “It’s great to have a lot of new friends, but I realized that you’re my best friend.” That means he really cares about her. Richie does care about Sadie.

Shahkro tricked the king. First, he said he needed tools, but he really didn’t. Next, he said that the kings dog whispered bad news in his ear. The dog can’t talk and if he did, the dog would’ve talked to the king before. Finally, Shakro said that the kings fastest horse turned into a donkey. If that was true, the horse would’ve turned into a donkey for the king a lot. That is how Shahkro tricked the king.

The Civil War
The Civil War was one of the most important American wars. The war began when the Southerners wanted slaves, but the Northerners wanted no slaves in this country. This awful war started in 1861 and ended in 1865. America was divided with the 11 Southern states wanting to break off and become a new country. Currently, when this war started and ended, Abraham Lincoln was the President. Abraham Lincoln grew up in a log cabin and had a nick name. It was Abe, but the funny thing is he didn’t like it! When the war started, it was with the attack on Fort Sumter in South Carolina. They fought at over 10,000 places and the most famous one was at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. 620,000 soldiers died in this war and it was the bloodiest war. It was a very sad time. Later at Gettysburg, Lincoln gave and address. You may know it as The Gettysburg Address. At that time most people gave hours of speeches, but Lincoln only gave a two-minute speech! The camera man thought the President would go on for hours for his speech, and he didn’t get a good picture of him because he thought he would have plenty of time. Finally, after four years the North won and ended slavery for all.

“Caribous have unusual stomach”. Caribou's travel to find food. “Some phasmids are known as leaf insects or walking stick. Caribous only eat at night. Caribous blend in with their surroundings.
Alligators blend in with their surroundings. Alligators look like logs so, if you were to go in the woods I would not step on logs. “There snouts clear dirt out of water holes so they can drink water”. “They only eat a few times in a month”.
“When Skunks turns and a sprays a predator, the foul-smelling mist can travel up to 10 feet”.” Skunks have a built-in system”. “They can blast a predator with a horrible smelling spray produced by the glands under their tails”. Shahkro’s second trick was he told the king he needed wagons with horses driving the wagons, but he did not need the wagons. Shahkro’s third trick was the kings dog ran into the room and Shahkro bent down and let the dog lick his ear then Shahkro said that the dog said his wife was dying. The last trick was that Shahkro said he needed the fastest horse the king had then Shahkro went to the village and traded the horse for a donkey then rode the donkey back and told the king that the horse turned into a donkey but it was a trick. Adaptations
How does adaptations help animals survive? I am going to talk about caribou, phasmids aka (the walking stick), and the alligator. Caribou, caribou have thick fur and have thick fur and their nose and mouth is called a muzzle. Then caribou eats more than six pounds of lichen! Wow! They have weird stomachs that have chambers for the lichen to eat. Phasmid, phasmids aka (the walking stick) are nocturnal and they find food in the night. No predators can see them in the day and the night that is so cool! Phasmids look like sticks and they live on trees. Alligators, alligators have a body that looks like a log. They have snouts that clear the dirt from the water holes. Alligators only need to eat once a month! I think nobody can last that long without eating. That is how adaptations work for caribou, phasmas, and alligators.

Richie shows that he cares about Sadie by, he shows up at then game and when Sadie didn’t want to get out of bed, he would bully her into getting out of bed. Point of View of Tree
Today’s started off as a breezy day. My leaves are blowing everywhere. This morning I saw someone walking their dog. I also saw a girl walking to school with her little brother. Right next to me was another tree with bright red, orange and yellow leaves, and the tree looked beautiful. At night, I saw some pretty Christmas trees through people’s windows. I saw another person walking their dog, and some people taking a walk in the neighborhood. The last thing I saw was a beautiful sunset.
